Welcome

Welcome to the BOUNCE Approach®

Whether you are a teacher, SENCO, ELSA, teaching assistant, therapist, family support worker, or another professional supporting children and young people, you are very welcome.

Children don’t arrive with instruction manuals. They arrive with their own experiences, relationships, nervous systems, strengths, and unique ways of making sense of the world. Sometimes those experiences are easy to understand. Sometimes they leave us wondering what might be happening beneath the behaviour we see.

The BOUNCE Approach® was developed to help answer that question.

Rather than focusing only on behaviour, BOUNCE provides a whole-child framework that helps us understand the factors influencing how children feel, learn, connect, communicate, and develop.

At the heart of the framework are six interconnected areas:

  • B — Body and Nervous System
  • O — Openness to Trust and Attachment
  • U — Understanding Sensory Differences
  • N — Navigating Emotions
  • C — Connection and Communication
  • E — Esteem and Identity

Each area of the framework is supported by practical resources, evidence-informed strategies, and professional training designed to help turn understanding into action.

Whether you’re looking for a simple strategy to use tomorrow, a structured intervention, or a deeper understanding of a child’s needs, the Learning Portal helps you move from recognising what may be happening beneath behaviour to providing support that is tailored to the individual child.

You don’t need to know everything before you begin—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to look through a different lens.

We hope this course gives you a clear introduction to the BOUNCE Approach® and helps you discover where to explore next, so that every child can be supported through understanding, practical interventions, and approaches that meet their individual needs.

Let’s begin.
