About Course
THE GROWTH ZONE – WHEN UNCOMFORTABLE IS OK
This lesson introduces children to the Growth Zone (Yellow Zone) – the space where learning and new experiences feel uncomfortable but are not unsafe. It helps children recognise the difference between healthy challenges that help them grow and overwhelming situations that push them too far.
Children will:
- Understand that feeling uncertain or stretched is part of learning and growth.
- Recognise the difference between manageable discomfort (Growth Zone) and feeling dysregulated (Wobbly, Angry, or Low States).
- Explore how the Prefrontal Cortex (Thinking Brain) and Hippocampus (Memory System) help us learn from challenges.
- Practise strategies to manage discomfort and stay in the Growth Zone without becoming overwhelmed.
This lesson uses discussion, movement, and hands-on activities to help children identify when they are in the Growth Zone and how to build resilience while staying regulated. By the end of the session, they will understand that feeling uncomfortable can be a sign of learning, not a reason to stop.
